AMOS
Disco music from the future

I saw Amos's Music for Sleeping last year at the Bluecoat and was blown
away! They actually had complaints from people in the audience about too
much bass!!! Amos sold out at the Bluecoat two nights in a row - this
is must-see stuff!

Amos is the alter-ego of Tom Rea Smith, named
after the late owner of the finest sideys in Yorkshire, and a biblical
proto-socialist with a fine line in wrath. Visuals are provided by the
awesome Sam Meech.

Amos is intense, immersive, dark & light, despairing & hopeful...

They're actually working on an opera at the moment, 'Johnny Viral Against the
Machine'. The libretto's being written by Richard Hughes from Bossfilm
and Andy Hunt of a.P.a.t.T in collaboration with Tom. Should be around
in October 2011. Can’t wait to see that!

NoiZY aZ FuCK
Death metal / breakcore / gabba

"Born...listened to metal & punk...grew up a bit...got bored of metal &
punk...got into gabba/noize/glitchy stuff...grew a bit more ;)...present
day...?!?" NoiZY aZ FuCK

FOCAL GAOL
Deep reflections in the land of sound

Glenn from Focal Gaol gave me a gig a while back, and I'm made up to be able
to repay the favour as these guys really know how to entertain! From
crazy psychedelic noise one moment, they'll suddenly break into a groove
so infectious you can't help but get carried along with it!

Focal Gaol started life as an offshoot of ambient electronics group, Aurelie,
providing a forum for live improvisation and developing work by
individual members. Formed in 2007, they've played at Kurt Schwitters'
Merzbarn as well as supporting acts like Anti-Pop Consortium and Volcano
the Bear.

The rotating line up includes: Jim Tetlow (percussion), Dave Dhonau (cello/bass), Glenn Boulter (guitar,
electronics), Ola Szmidt (flute) and John Hall (laptop / gramophone).

THE FRAKASS MEGAPHONE CHOIR
Noise with megaphones!
WE NEED YOU!!! We're looking for as many people as we can get to make
noise with a megaphone on the night... if you've got a megaphone or
megaphone-like device and wanna make noise, then just turn up on the
night with your megaphone...

HOSTILE DUDE PARTY
I played a gig a while ago where Hostile Dude Party was DJing... one of the best
DJ sets I've heard! Hostile Dude Party (a.k.a. Andrew Ellis, a.k.a.
Samizdat) is the perfect mix of the sublime and the ridiculous, from
harsh industrial noise to disco, from tripped-out electronica to free
jazz, and everything in between. It should be so wrong, but it ends up
so right!

NOISE CLUB
Our regular in-house VJs return with more psychedelic meanderings.
Combining extreme lo-fi and extreme hi-tec, I just love these guys'
crazy visuals... oh wait, that's because I'm one of them!

HAZARD MMX, Saturday 17 July, Manchester‏

Hazard logo
HAZARD MMX

17 July 12-5pm Free
Manchester City Centre

One man, a forest of placards and the roar of the crowd… a woman crushed
by a celestial object… a solo quest to make over the image of banking…
six wheelchair users touching down on the moon in Manchester… one
hundred Dorothys celebrating Judy.

HAZARD Manchester’s micro-festival of sited performance and intervention
unleashes its third wave of bizarre behaviour onto the city on 17 July.
Outbreaks of cheeky, thought-provoking and sometimes raunchy sprees of
eccentricity take live art and contemporary performance into the public
domain.

The two previous outings of Hazard have seen the bold and the beautiful,
eccentric and extreme crop-up in every possible location: Cathedral
Gardens swaddled in Hazard Tape, giant dancing traffic cones, impossible
circumnavigations of the city by canoe and dry-wipe graffiti have all
featured. At times unavoidable, at times subliminal, a flash of yellow
and black might be the only clue that the city is one big performance.

For HAZARD MMX, over twenty pieces of work will take to the streets,
with participating artists to include:

Alex Bradley, Andy&Gaz&Jon, Astrid Breel, Clare Charnley,
Doldrum Theatre, Eggs Collective, Fin de Siecle, Freezechester, Hannah
Wiles, Hen's Teeth Theatre, James Topple, Jordan McKenzie, Martin
Hamblen, Natalie Preece, Noise Club, Out Of Hand Theater, Peader Kirk,
Rachael Nutter, Scratch ‘n Sniff Cinema, The Muffia, Vickie Fear

From pervasive gaming to one-on-one performance; a phone-based guided
tour to take-away artworks, HAZARD MMX aims to provoke and amuse,
involve and engage, demonstrating to the city the playful side of
contemporary art.

Get involved:

Larkin’ About’s micro-festival within a micro-festival, brings pervasive
gaming to Manchester Arndale Centre. Turn up at Hallé Square from 12pm
to join the games.

Find your inner Dorothy:

Eggs Collective is calling for participants to join them on a march
through the city from the Emerald City to Canal Street. Contact them at eggs_collective@hotmail.com.

HAZARD MMX is looking for ‘placardeers’ to participate in a mobile
intervention from 11-16 July, and for stewards to help spread the word
on the day, expenses paid – contact hazard@habarts.org

CALL FOR ARTISTS/PERFORMERS

For August’s If Only..! night, we are seeking three North West based artists to create new site-specific works for the garden at the Bluecoat. Responding to the theme of ‘August Sunset’, the work will feature some performative element but could be anything from music to skating, spoken word to live cooking.

If Only..! will take place on Thursday 5 August in the garden at the Bluecoat. The sun will set during the event (8.42pm, the event takes place 8.00-10.00pm) and we encourage work that makes use of this fact. Indoor spaces are also available.

Each artist/group will receive £65 to cover the production of the piece including materials, expenses and fees. Technical support will be available from the Bluecoat.

Terms and Conditions
The work must make use of light of some kind, e.g. bulbs, slide projector, glow sticks, overhead projector, fireflies, etc. Use your imagination!

We encourage the imaginative use of low-tech and recycled material, technologies and techniques and cross-disciplinary work.

How to apply
Due to the short deadline, we are not looking for full proposals at this stage. Instead, applicants should submit a short statement of interest and accompanying biography (no longer than 200 words) as well as 2-3 images (jpg format) of previous work to if.only@live.co.uk

If selected, you will have one month to develop and plan your idea before the performance.

Deadline to apply: Friday 25 June.
